The Enfield Fire District anticipates an upcoming vacancy for the position of Fire District Treasurer. The Board of Fire Commissioners is now accepting applications for the position of Fire District Treasurer.

Duties of the Treasurer
Although not inclusive, the following tasks are part of the District Treasurer‘s role:
- Maintain current vendor lists
- Maintain organized and easily accessible computer and hard copy files for all capital equipment (valued >$1,000) including property and vehicles
- Maintaining insurance records for property and vehicles
- Creating a budget template by first August meeting and prepare a draft budget for the District as budget as developed
- Tracking and entering all budget expenditures
- Payment of all approved bills in a timely manner
- Issuing Purchase Orders
- Depositing all District funds and reporting to the Board fund balances on a twice monthly basis
- Provide accurate and current financial statements to the Board on a twice monthly basis
- Maintain petty cash fund
- Maintain QuickBooks or current financial software keeping all entries accurate and up to date.
- All financial record keeping shall always be no more than 14 days old.
- All books and files shall be made available to the Board at any time upon request
- Prepare necessary documentation and deliver documents as needed for annual financial review and/or audit
- Respond to and collect necessary paperwork for Worker’s Compensation audits
- Understand and follow all District Financial Policies
- Make recommendations to the board that would improve finances, reporting, business practices, safety, legal compliance, etc.
- Gather necessary budget information to prepare draft Property Tax Cap reporting filing and file once directed by Board Chairman.
- Maintain records and obtain financial information needed to produce the Annual Report on a timely basis. Report shall be reviewed by Board prior to submission.
- Issue necessary 1099’s before IRS deadline
- All original files, both electronic and hard copies, shall remain at the District office unless specifically directed otherwise by the Board
- The fire district treasurer is appointed by the board of fire commissioners for a one-year term ending on December 31 each year.
- The treasurer acts as the chief financial officer of the Fire District receives and has custody of all district funds subject to Town Law 177.
- Possess a working knowledge of Quick Books, Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel.
- Be willing to undergo training related to Fire District financial criteria at Fire District expense.
- Attend all regular district meetings and provide monthly treasurer reports to the board of fire commissioners.
- Possess sound communication skills.
- Be of good character and bondable.
- A person who has been convicted of arson in any degree shall not be eligible for appointment to the office of fire district treasurer.
- Perform such other duties as identified by the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Compensation
Compensation for Treasurer, (and if applicable, possibly a Deputy Treasurer), shall be decided for the next calendar year during the budget process (up to $7,500 for 2026); this compensation will be based on experience, workload, ability to perform duties, and BOC decision. The current salary is $5,000 per year, paid quarterly.
